Annual Paul Cudmore Memorial Lecture

History of the Paul Cudmore Memorial Lectureship

Dr. Paul Cudmore joined the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie in 1964 where, for two years, he was Director of the Student Health Service and Assistant Director of Continuing Medical Education. He spent a year of training at the Office of Research in Medical Education and the Center for the Study of Medical Education at the University of Illinois, Chicago. In 1970, he was appointed Assistant Dean with responsibility for curriculum education, and further recognized for his contributions by his appointment to Associate Dean in 1973. In 1976. Dr. Cudmore died after a prolonged illness. The lectureship was established to honor his many contributions.

The Cudmore lectureship is the highlight of the year in undergraduate medical education at Dalhousie where faculty benefit from 2 - 3 days of interaction with a leading medical educator. From the first visit by Dr. George Miller in 1978, the list of invited lecturers reads like a "who's who" in medical education (see Table below).
